CD and Game storage unit

One saturday i had the day off work, so my younger brother asked me if i could make him sumin to put his games in. I asked what sort of thing he wanted, and he had a couple of ideas. We went into his room and had a look aronund , we spotted a bit of dead floor space between his desk and bed. We eventually came up with an idea, i took some measurements and did a rough sketch.

In the garage i had a rummage throught the stock pile of wood that i have aquired over the years since we moved to our house. I found a large amount of beech effect venered chipboard , a computer cupboard we had but mum didnt like.

I set to making the unit using this wood, i was very strickt with my self and made sure i thought ever cut carefully inorder to make the most of the pre venered edges , especially the rounded ones, as i had no hankering to try and find matching veneer at Homebase or Focus (other DIY stored available) as this had been imposible in the past.

I managed to get all the edges that are visible to be vennered and even used pieces of wood with a rounded edge for the shelves, adding detail.

I believe this to be my best garage project yet, with most of the joints (all butt joints) being tight and as square as is possible without any type of electric saw or planer. I added two plastic cd rack insert that had come with the wood , making storage of cds very simple and easy.

My brother was very pleased with it as it fitted under the overhanging top of his desk with about two millimeters gap and was a similar tight fit between the desk and bed. It holds all his games and the shelves and the exact right size (one end often a bit tighter than the other).

I finished it back in August last year, and have today added the final details that ive been promising my brother ever since. These details will be explained when i get around to taking some pics of it.
